About

Neo Baepi (he/him) (b.1991, Potchefstroom) is a South African photographer currently living and working in Johannesburg, South Africa. Portraiture is the focus of his work, allowing him to turn any space into a safe and productive one.

Various commercial commissions include Netflix, Superbalist, Careers Magazine and Penguin Random House. Print publications include The Lake Magazine, Prufrock Magazine and The Mail & Guardian. In 2020, Neo was listed as one of the Mail & Guardian Top 200 Young South Africans.

The idea behind the images by Neo is for us to be mindful of one another as a (r)evolutionary instinct. Like most things, people exist to end up photographed (archived, preserved, dignified) - the difference here is that JOY is the filter. Joy is a human right.
